Thakadu River Camp is set within the canopy of the riverine forest on the banks of the Marico River, in the Eastern portion of the beautiful Madikwe Game Reserve. This treetop lodge has been built to blend in with the nature that surrounds it and allows guests to truly unwind and enjoy their peaceful surroundings. The main lodge consists of an open plan lounge, dining and reception area with a pool and bar area close by. Enjoy the panoramic views from the traditional lapa that is set in the forest glade.
Thakadu River Camp is a wholly-owned, community-based tented safari camp. It is an ecotourism partnership between the Molathedi Community, aha Hotels and Lodges and the North-West Parks Board. The concept is unique in South Africa with substantial benefits accruing to the community itself.
Carefully constructed to blend into its natural surroundings, Thakadu River Camp offers tented suites set within a riverine canopy between the Marico River and a small tributary.
A traditional lapa (courtyard enclosure) set within a glade of natural riverine forest offers panoramic views of the spectacular surroundings.
The Lodge’s open-plan lounge, dining area and reception serve as a bushveld oasis, while the bar and pool area are ideal for relaxation. The Lodge welcomes families, and while children under six cannot be permitted on standard game drives, they (and parents) are invited to a special 90-minute morning game drive designed especially for them.
Game drives are the feature attraction here. Experienced guides will lead you on early morning and evening drives. Each drive is unique, with morning drives often delivering sightings of elephant, rhino, lion and giraffe; and evening drives offering the best chance of a rare leopard sighting. The forests, grassland, dams and rocky hills provide a wide range of habitats for birds, too – and birdwatchers will be delighted by the magnificent diversity of species.
Thakadu River Camp accommodates children of all ages.
